Nestled in the picturesque valley of Harsing, just 1000 feet (300m) below the bustling town of Darjeeling in West Bengal, India, Shrikins Homestay offers an authentic experience in the lap of nature. This serene haven is a mere 13 kilometers from Darjeeling's central hub.
Lebong, the birthplace of Darjeeling's renowned tea plantations dating back to the 1850s, is famed for its Gorkha stadium and the Lebong Race Course. Situated in Harsing Hat, Shrikins Homestay boasts organic certification and is conveniently located near the borders of Sikkim, Nepal, and Bhutan. Although Nepali is the predominant local language, many residents are proficient in Hindi and English.

Rivers: Two major rivers, the Rungdung River and the Ghattee River, flow through the area. The Rungdung River originates from the Senchel Wildlife Sanctuary, which is also adjacent to Darjeeling town.

For nature enthusiasts, there are multiple ways to explore the beauty of Harsing and the Mineral Spring:
You can opt for a trek or a 4-wheel drive adventure to the Mineral Spring and Harsing Valley.
Alternatively, nature lovers can embark on an alternative track route from the 3rd mile or 6th mile forest.
Community Development:
Within Harsing and Mineral Spring, there are 11 hamlets that together formed the "Mineral Spring Sunjukta Vikash Sanstha (MSSVS)" in 1996. This organization now boasts over 450 household members and has achieved organic certification since 2001, adhering to national and international standards. MSSVS is also a producer partner of Fair Trade Labeling Organization International since 2003.
Agricultural Practices:
Local farmers in the region practice traditional agriculture, cultivating a variety of crops including oranges, ginger, turmeric, cardamom, broomstick, tea, vegetables, and dairy products like milk. MSSVS Tea is internationally recognized and sold by brands like Equal Exchange, Alter Eco, and Dwp.
Educational and Homestay Opportunities:
Students from both national and international universities have conducted research in collaboration with MSSVS. Certified permaculture design courses have been conducted in Mineral Spring since 2005 by Rico Zook, an international trainer and practitioner. Regular training sessions on internal control and regulation systems of organic farming are also held, with the added dimension of homestays for participants.
Tour Package Overview:
Day 1: Arrival at Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station, transfer to Darjeeling via Rohini Road, Kurseong, Sunada. Evening exploration of Darjeeling's vibrant town. Overnight at a hotel or homestay.
Day 2: Early morning visit to Tiger Hill, Ghoom Monastery, and Batasia Loop. Return for breakfast, followed by a visit to H.M.I and Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park.
Day 3: Discover the Ropeway, Tenzing Norgay, Gorkha Stadium, Lebong Race Course, and Lebong Cave Temple.return back.
Day 4: Begin your day with a drive to Harsing Hatta, then take a leisurely stroll to Rungdung River, Aanp Botay, and Ghattee River. Return back.
Day 5: Morning visit to organic ginger harvesting, orange gardens, tea gardens, and bamboo weaving. Overnight at the homestay.
Day 6: Enjoy morning river rafting on the Teesta River, then proceed to Kalimpong. Visit the Tibetan Monastery, flower nursery, and local bazaar. Overnight at a hotel or homestay.
